7-mode/HA pair/V-Series : Volumes : Configuring volumes : Creating a volume

Creating a volume
You can create a new flexible volume (FlexVol volume) by using the Create Volume dialog box. Using multiple FlexVol volumes enables you to perform administrative tasks on some of your data, while the rest remains available to users.
About this task
System Manager does not support creating traditional volumes.
Steps
1.
From the Home tab, double-click the appropriate storage system to display a subtree of management features.
2.
Click Storage > Volumes.
3.
Click Create.
4.
Optionally, type the name you want for your new volume over the name automatically supplied by System Manager.
5.
If you would like to enable SnapLock on this volume, select SnapLock is Enabled.
6.
Click the type of storage for which you are creating this volume.
7.
Select the aggregate on which you want the new volume created.
8.
Type the required size of the volume.
9.
Type the percentage of the total volume size that you want to reserve for Snapshot copies.
10.
Click Space Settings.
You cannot modify the space settings for a root volume, so the Space Settings tab does not display for a root volume. If you are creating a root volume, skip to step 13.
11.
If you would like to enable deduplication on this volume, click Enable deduplication.
System Manager uses the default deduplication schedule for deduplication. To change the deduplication schedule, use the Edit Volume dialog box.
If the specified volume size exceeds the limit of the deduplication feature, the volume is created and deduplication is not turned on.
12.
Click the space guarantee mode that you want for the new volume.
13.
If you would like to apply a quota to the volume, click Quotas.
14.
To set quota limit on the usage of hard disk space for all qtrees in the volume, click Qtree quota and specify the limit.
15.
To set quota limit on the usage of hard disk space for all users of the volume, click User quota and specify the limit.
16.
Click Create.
